Running late I ran to the machine, missed the light and face planted slide to the machine kicking it on. As I lay there wondering what just happened the random machine said…

“Light Placement”

Ok I get it, turn on the lights. Light placement in photography is about emphasizing light.  A classic side lite portrait is a good example. Image Search and 2010 – Light Placement.

People for People of the PB&J

Here are Last weeks people photos by people for people. I suspect by the number of entries that people didn’t know many people:

Yes I know this is a day late. The dog didn’t really eat my flash drive but I was on a trip to Nashville, I forgot my card reader and Storms make internet go bye bye. The random theme machine did however work correctly on Monday.  I was fairly stressed by the time I powered it on. The machine said to calm down and do something:

“Soothing”

Yes, I really do need something soothing. It seems last year I was late getting to soothing also. History seems to repeat itself sometimes. Here is an image search to help. Think soothing thoughts and take a photo. 2010 – Soothing.

PB&J in focus

Another week has come and gone as another theme has. Here are last weeks depth of field photos:

I have hope for more 52week entries. I had a recent visit with the random theme machine. I explained a theme above themes was needed. A theme that all people could easily participate in. A theme equal to all regardless of camera. A theme by the people for the people… The machine was inspired to randomly pick:

“People”

People as a theme. It makes sense that anybody with a camera can find some people to take pictures of. I remember a day when a man named Jesse once submitted photos. 2010 – PEOPLE. That photo happened to be of people. There is hope I say hope that  people will stand up and say, “We the People.” We the people can photograph people.

A PB&J in doubt full of shadows.

I waited until midnight to post the blog hoping for a few extra entries. As a fellow blogger said. The 52 week experiment might have run its course. The submissions have died off as have the page visits. It might be time to consider alternatives. Either running to the end of the year or ending it in July. I’ll pull in the round table at lunch and discuss its future. For now here is last weeks shadow photos.

I remotely turned on the random generator and asked for a theme to revive the experiment. The machine didn’t’ run long:

“Depth of Field”

That theme was a low point of last year we shall see how it preforms this year.

In optics, particularly as it relates to film and photography, depth of field (DOF) is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image. DOF – 2010, Image search.

“Shadows”

This weeks theme is all about shadows. Shadow photography is all about the shadow. Last year had some interesting photos. I hope this post holiday dark theme gets peoples creative juices flowing. Check out this image search and example.

Changes

The rapture is upon us! It is time for change: Colors will be altered, The front page will burn. New pages will rise from the ashes, whole galleries will disappear, new galleries will appear, software will be added to the software tab, brother and sister websites will be born and in the end a rebirth.

A PB&J playing with light.

A week of grads must have slowed down the photos. Painting with light usually gets people to play. Here are those people that played:

As I casually walked down to the random theme machine I tripped and fell down the stairs… Somehow I managed to power on the machine. As I lay there looking up it spit out the following theme:

“Odd Camera Angle”

This fit perfectly with the angle I was looking at. Last years version of this theme was a bit squeaky and with a holiday weekend coming this might be the slimmest of this years themes for entries. Odd camera angles are really just other than what is considered a normal camera angle. Last year I mentioned an image search shows little in examples. This year it shows last years photos with even less examples.

UGH. Think up, down or cattycorner avoid high, low or straight.

PB&J Colorblind

There were a few colorful submissions. Here are last weeks.

I went down deep into the dudgeon. Unlocked the door and when I opened it I was Blinded by the Light.  The random theme machine had put a spell on me.  Let the mood music brighten this weeks theme:

“Painting with Light”

Painting with Light from last year really got the creativity flowing.  Painting with light is all about light rolling over the subject. This can be B&W or Color.  This can also be a stationary camera and moving light. Wikipedia has a great example of moving the camera which can be found here. The first known photographer to use this technique was Man Ray in his series “Space Writing”  There are many ways to interpret this. Some examples: Image search 1 and Image search 2. Enjoy and don’t let it overwhelm you, a flashlight and a subject would work. Just take your time you have a week.

PB&J, The golden standard.

Last week had some adventures. Here are last weeks adventurous photos:

I walked down to the random theme room where Chris was already waiting. After all the security clearance and authorizations were approved the keys were rotated and the dial started spinning. My mind really had slipped a notch because all I could see was techno color. When the machine completed its rotation it came to rest on:

“Colorful”

The theme this week to be is colorful.  Last years colorful had some colorful submissions.  I think people have hit the “Not quite summer yet funk”.  Lets hope colorful as a theme is inspirational enough to get people out and produce some colorful submissions.  Colorful photography has many meanings:  an emotion or feeling,  either subject or background, multiple tones of a single color in harmony or just full of color.  Your imagination sets the rules.  An Image Search for assistance.

A Moving PB&J

Fresh back from the SPAM capital I decided to get moving. The moving photos for last week were slow to arrive but here they are:

Fresh back from my SPAMVENTURE™ and eggs I’m hungry for some reason. Good oil and a frying pan tend to do that. I seem to have forgot my wallet, no car and the dogs ate my homework. I was at a lose what to do. I went down and asked the Great random theme generator for the answer to all answers. What photos shall we take this week?: something bold, something that will get people outside and motivated to take some photos. I’m talking real things.

I pressed the button and held my breath… Once I woke up I noticed the machine had stopped on:

“Adventure”

I thought having the ability to actually hold your breath long enough to pass out was pretty adventurous. I suspect this is to be something like last years adventure. Be bold and adventurous go forth and discover the grass that needs mowed, the neighbors cat or the lonely squirrel.  Somewhere adventure is waiting for the right photographer and that photographer is you!  I know you can do this and with only an image search  and an inspirational song to guide you.

PB&J Helping Hands

I could have used some helping hands. It seems all of my appliances decided they are done working. Here are last weeks hands around the photographer… ok just hands photos.

I cleaned off the appliance grease and managed to find my way down to the random theme room. Dragging my sore feet it took all I had to just smash the start button. The machine just spun round and round and didn’t seem to stop. All I could think of was hair band RATT and their song Round and Round. Flashback…. 1, 2, 3 It seemed I missed that the dial had stopped on:

“Motion”

Last years motion was very short. I’ll go out on a limb here and say, “If it’s moving it’s in motion.” There you go. An image search for inspirational assistance.  Go quick and take photos while running. (NOTICE: I am not responsible for any accidents. Please only try this at home with a cheap camera. Or a really expensive one which motivates me not to drop it.)

Starving PB&J… MORE JAM NEEDED

I thought food would bring people out. It maybe time for a PB&J party. Here are last weeks photos:

I went down to visit the random theme generator. I was waving my hands erratically and asked could we have a theme people would notice. Something that will help to photograph and enter a few photos. The machine just starred at me waving… I keep asking what? what are you saying?. Finally I got it. this week is:

“HANDS”

Hands, this is fairly self explanatory.  Last years hands provided several helping hands. Here is an image search to give a few ideas.

So dry we had extras… PB&J update.

Dry was so busy It made me hungry. The only problem was the hunger bus was broken and I was really hungry. I asked the random theme machine for something to take my mind off of this hunger… I know now that the random theme machine has a sense of humor. It spit out:

“FOOD”

I’m going to assume the machine has a plan. Food as a theme is rather straight forward. One could take this theme a step farther and have some fun. Go forth, find food and take photos.

Fast Assembled PB&J

Last week must have gone by too fast. Fast as a theme passed people by. Here are the submissions for fast:

Working at the computer mine I often hear a lot of dry humor. With that in mind Chris and I walked down into the random theme generator room and asked it for something fresh and less fast theme. Obviously geeks assembled this machine… It spun around, started laughing and spit out:

“Dry”

Ha ha ha.. DRY is this weeks theme.   2010 Dry was dry, lets hope the dry humor of the RGM produces some more dry responses. With Spring rains happening dry photos might be interesting. Here is an image search to give you some ideas.
