PB&J in harmony

Published by under 52 Week,Photography and Art

While everything seems in harmony the submissions seem to be lacking. Here are last weeks submissions for harmony. FYI while blogging one should remember that DRAFT doesn’t mean PUBLISHED.

Spencer’s favorite toy. He will fall asleep with that in his mouth.

What can I say. There is harmony in there if you look.

This is the second time I have ran the new theme machine(F. R. Id. Ge.). I feel like I purchased a few too many options. While it doesn’t slice or dice, at least I don’t think so, did I really need a fully loaded fridge. What is opacity, inspirational timer or smooth display? Can I just get an answer without a degree?. Chris pointed out the machine said this weeks theme is:

“Macro”

Macro photography is close-up and personal photography of usually very small subjects. Last years macro shows a few examples as does a good image search.

The old theme machine died this weekend. R.I.P. it will be missed.  I powered on the F.R.Id.Ge. for the fist time. It fully loaded and with that new theme machine smell. Chris stopped by and couldn’t believe the size of the FRIdGe. The machine really did run smooth and told us the theme is all about:

“Harmony”

I have to trust the FRIdGe knows what it is doing. Harmony can be thought of as a unity of subject and background, that feeling of harmony. Feel the harmony, pick up the camera and snap the photos.

From the sick bed I remotely, once again, fired up the old theme machine. This is the last time the old machine will be used. The new one has been wired and tested. The techs have left and I have the PDF instruction manual on DVD. It is good timing because I think the old machine’s mind is going. I’m not sure what it was thinking. IT spit out with a final breath:

“Panning & Camera Blur”

An odd theme choice for mid January. Simple answer is, you are introducing a blur into the photo by panning the camera on your subject while it is in motion. Think of following a moving object like a car or runner while it is in motion then snapping the photo. The subject is clear while the background is not. WIKIPEDIA help. GOOGLED example. This could be interesting on ice. The more I think about it now the more I wonder if the old machines mind is fine it just wants a final laugh when we fall on the ice.

Plea for submitting. submit submit submit. It is clear I must really go all out for grand making of PB&Js.

2nd Tuesday Review “Dirty Harry”

Published by under 2nd Tuesday Review

Something new to blog about. On the 2nd Tuesday of every month I’m going to review cut rate Blu-rays or DVDs that contain multiple movies hopefully below $10.  I’m probably not going to review the movies. I’ll give some details and my opinion.

1st review is of the Dirty Harry Collection on DVD for $5. It contains four movies: Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, The Enforcer and Sudden Impact. Only missing The Dead Pool, which most people could care less about.

IMG_7844CS

Dirty Harry is the name of a fictional San Francisco Police Department Homicide Division Inspector, “Dirty” Harry Callahan. Harry Callahan is famously shown wielding his Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver and saying many one liners. “I know what you’re thinking: Did he fire six shots, or only five?”, “this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off”, “You’ve got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?”.  After the showing of the original Dirty Harry movie many wished to own or went out and purchased the  Smith & Wesson 29 revolver chambered in .44 Magnum.

Watch Dirty Harry, Magnum Force and The Enforcer. Skip Sudden Impact and the missing The Dead Pool. These movies were full of classic impossibilities. The raw appeal is too hard to pass up.  At $5 well worth collecting for anybody who loves a classic Eastwood and good ole cop flick.

Parts have been ordered to repair most of the broken things on the new theme machine and the parts of the website. I powered on the old machine once again for its extended 2nd life. It insisted that something has had:

“Long Exposure”

Our first photo technique. Long exposure is about small aperture and long shutter time, or small hole and keep it open long time(more light longer). Well ah yeah IMAGES. For those that like alternatives and be a bit more creative. Exposure is the act of subjecting something to a repeated activity. Lots of things endure long exposure.

My usually plea for submitting. submit submit submit.

PB&J s2e1

Published by under 52 Week,Photography and Art

A new year and season 2 of the PB&J. As you know the new theme machine is still being wired up. So without delay I powered up the old machine, temporarily, to get a theme for this week. This weeks theme is all about

“Reflections”

Doing a quick image search and you will find the answer to what a reflection(s) photo is. They are photos taken with a reflection.

–>

What is the 52 week (P)hoto (B)log & (J)ournal?

It is an experiment to expand peoples thoughts and get them out and about to take photographs. Every Monday at noon a new theme is picked by the “Random Theme Generator”. This is generally overseen by more than one person because of security reasons. You then have that week, until next Monday at noon, to go out and take a NEW photo(s) that are based on your interpretation of that theme. So 1 week, your interpretation of the theme.

FAQS (I reserve the right to change them)

1. Do I give up my rights to the photos when I submit them? How long will you keep the photos up? Can I request them removed?

A1. You NEVER give up your rights. By submitting them you do give me the right to put them on my website because that is what you are submitting them for. I will not use them for anything else. As a note I usually put your name and website but not your email under your photo. If you do NOT want your name or website listed or you desire your email added you must specify on every submission what you want.

A2. Since I run the place they are up until I run out of space. I have no desire to achieve anything but never say never.

A3. See rule 1A1, you can request them removed.

2. Will you post all my submissions?

A. Yes and no. I’ll post anything you submit as long as it isn’t illegal or just way offensive, “I have the final say.” Nude is ok provided it is legal and you took the photo.

3. Do you comment on the submissions?

I do not generally comment on submissions. I do however reserve the ***right to comment. ***I have never left a negative comment. At the end of all posts you may leave your own comments just be respectful of others.

4. Can I just pick from my library of photos I have already taken? Do I have to submit a photo?

A1. While you could pick from your library and I would post it. This isn’t in the spirit of the idea that you must take a NEW photo based on your interpretation of the theme. The idea is you take the photo that week getting you thinking and out rather than just thumb through old photos.

A2. The idea is to submit a photo based on your interpretation of that weeks theme. I am open to interpretation.

5. Do I have to submit the photo(s) by noon Monday? How do I submit? What size should the photos be?

A1. I would prefer you submitted by noon on Monday because I post last weeks photos and next weeks theme at the same time. You don’t’ have to wait until Monday to submit them. You may submit them anytime until Monday, preferably by noon. If you are a little late I’ll forgive you.

A2. You can email your submissions to me. Request the email address on the contact page and I’ll email back to confirm. This extra step is due to spam.

A3. I prefer the photos be under 200K and fit within the size of 1200×1200. However you my submit them at any size. I’ll reduce them to the above size and sometimes expand them.

6. How are the themes picked?

A. Everybody is allowed to submit a theme suggestion. Use the contact page if you have a theme idea. The themes are then looked over by a group of people the last month of the year.

7. May I use the theme on my website and maybe with my own theme? What is the “Random Theme Generator” ?

A1. You may use it on your own website and even do your own theme. The software I use is available at no charge on this website.

A2. I’ll explain in detail the “Random Theme Generator” Below.

While I’m not allowed to discuss its exact hardware. It is a 16GB, 16CPU, 4TBHD beast of a machine. A (F)ully (R)andom (I)ndependent (G)enerator. The F.R.Id.Ge is fully stocked with extras. It has, at its disposal, an aging tickertape machine and an engraver. The controls were ordered from ACME and have two security keys and a shiny red button.
