PB&J from a different angle.

Published by under 52 Week,Photography and Art

Last weeks food leaves me hungry. It seems my party and heavy workload on Sunday left me dehydrated and with a case of heat stroke. So this blog might be a bit short. Here are last weeks food photos.

Being dehydrated and Chris out of the computer mine I ran the machine myself. I touched the button and it said you need a new

“Viewpoint”

Every photo has a viewpoint. The most common viewpoint is standing and this is what we are used to. Interesting photos can happen when you change the viewpoint at which you take a photo. Image Search. So go forth and find an interesting viewpoint but not an odd camera angle since that is still to come.

(P)hoto (B)log & (J)ournal hunger

Last weeks theme was about silence which seems to be a B&W photo.  Here are last weeks silent photos about silence.

You would have to ask her, I have no clue.  Remove duct tape with CAUTION!

Chris stopped by to get this weeks theme. I used an old Novell finger pointing trick to get the machines thoughts… instead it read my mind and said:

“FOOD”

Food photography is a still life specialization of commercial photography. I think anybody with a device that can take an image can figure out how to take a picture of food.  Just in case here is a Google image search. So power up the wii cam, cell phone, buy a camera or borrow one. Have fun with this photo and if you can’t figure it out, you have to eat sometime.

PB&J. Quiet Please

Published by under 52 Week,Photography and Art

Last weeks silhouettes theme seems to have lost some people. Everybody who submitted a photo did submit a silhouette photo. It is all those I thought would submit but didn’t must have struggled a bit. Let us review; WIKIPEDIA and GOOGLE. ok review over. Now we can show the submitted: I don’t usually comment on peoples photos but this week maybe a slight comment.

Chris shows a classic and slightly creepy silhouette.

Lee’s photo is an interesting almost reverse silhouette.  Done with a box camera it was hard to keep the flash from firing and take a photo in near dark.

Miki is stuck, inside behind a door today, making it hard to take a photo. This makes me think that her photo must be of her escape, so I named it that.

I’ve always thought silhouettes had a bit of a creepy feel to them so I went with that.
1 – 40 watt light bulb
2 – skulls
1 – silver chalice.
1 – incense cone
1 – fan
3 – black mats
1 – red filter
- and you get a photo.

Chris stepped into the theme machine booth and I pressed the button. Everybody is familiar with the theme machine by now and was talking away. It must have had enough because with the authority of an upset librarian it yelled back:

“Silence”

“Be wery wery quiet I’m hunting wabbits” Good ole days flashback, Elmer Fudd. I had no clue he had middle name.

Silence in photography is interesting since photos actually make no noise. This is best thought of as displaying silence. Check out these image searches for ideas: GOOGLE and FOTOSEARCH. Remember you don’t have to think quiet thoughts to get silence.

A PB&J presentation.

Published by under 52 Week,Photography and Art

Last week was a scorcher out. The heat had effects on outings, lenses and the photos. Here are last weeks photos.

Chris’s photo: So hot out one just gets into the water.

Me and my doggie path. The humidity was very high and the lens fogged over. Sometimes the best accidents make some of the most interesting art.

Chris stopped by early bouncing a rubber covered steel ball used in the computer mine industry. It was removed from its rubber coating and tossed at the theme machine jamming the gears. As the machine spun to a halt all we could see was:

“Silhouettes”

This theme has a lot of artistic potential with bit of mystery. Silhouette is derived from the name of Etienne De Silhouette who enjoyed making paper cutout portraits. His name became eponymous with these portraits. See Wikipedia for more. In photography the silhouette is a representation of the early paper portraits often using the technique of photographing elements against light to achieve an image in silhouette. A Google search shows the many possibilities and mysteries that can be photographed. Get out there and start taking pictures. As always, it’s up to your interpretation and if you submit it I’ll post it.

Follow the path to PB&J

Published by under 52 Week,Photography and Art

PB&J… what is it? A (P)eanut (B)utter & (J)elly? I asked several people this weekend to fill in the blank. I would say Peanut Butter and? All responses were Jelly! Why ask this? I had one person inform me that it is NOT Peanut Butter & Jelly. All those people have it wrong. A true one is a Peanut Butter & Jam. WHAT?!?! does this have to do with my blog? Nothing, except when I say PB&J It is a fancy acronym for (P)hoto (B)log & (J)ournal. Mixed with the occasional real PB&J with Jelly or Jam which seems to be on the same path. Like last weeks theme which had Chris and I following similar paths. The classic reflection photo was the path to take.

My photo was a “one shot”, “last change” I had of Big Creek State Park. It has a reflection.

Speaking of paths, Chris stopped by and the machine was powered up. I started rocking the machine in a left and right motion and out came the theme:

“Paths”

Paths is arguably a loose technique that can encompasses many of the definable photographic guidelines of composition: rule of thirds, balancing elements, leading lines, symmetry and patterns, viewpoint, background, depth, framing and cropping. It is loose because it can contain or be all, part or any of those things. All of my leading lines gallery contain a path to something. This is another one that a Google image search is worth far more than a text description. Get out there and start taking photos. Submit them and I will post them.
