pb&j that almost happened

Published by Mike under Blogging,Photography and Art

pretend it is monday.

i’m typing everything lowercase in shame. last weeks photo to take was a simple photography rule, “rule of thirds.” this must have been too simple. i expected a few extra photos because i thought it was so simple.  here are the photos that were submitted in the order they were submitted:

.

.

.

your eyes are not deceived, nothing was submitted. not even i managed to take this simple photo. i am not sure what happened: the week went by, soon the weekend then it was monday, still nothing on monday evening and now it is tuesday and still nothing.

i stopped typing, shamefully shelved the slr and stepped out back and snapped a photo with a kodak box camera, for lasts weeks photo. The photo says it all.

i went to press the button for next weeks and it had already been pressed. displayed was:

“feet”

let us hope it is not as stinky as last weeks. this should be a simple photo, take a picture of feet: GOOGLED. or some form of the word feet.

PB&J Disaster

I guess I’ve worn out the PB&J. Photo Blog and Jabber, Just, Juicy bits or Jelly? OK words starting with J… The Saturday breakfast was a nonevent do to: no time, no gas in my grill, charcoal wouldn’t light, rush senior photos and my dog ate my homework. My photo for last weeks “Long Exposure”, I’ll admit, was a crap I need a photo moment. I was so busy and sick this weekend I just stopped and took a photo of something that was a play on the phrase "long exposure". Only thing I have done was bumped up the color a bit to almost hurting the eyes. This weeks photos:

Next week I don’t know what to do to entice people. I made PB&J, I toasted it, I grilled it and I offered it with breakfast.  This weekends weather report mentions rain so no grilling the hash browns outside.  Some recap of what we have already done: Adventure, Explore, Motion, Soothing, Wet, Plants, Long Exposure, Symmetry and Patterns, Framing, Use of Space, Macro, Unfocused, Self Portrait, People and Signs. Ok I just pushed the button and out popped:

“Rule of Thirds”

As far as photography rules go, this is an easy one. The idea is that it makes for a more appealing photo. Think of a tick tack toe grid and align your subject on these grid lines. With little enticement needed I suspect many people can figure out this one and take many photos. Check out GOOGLED and WIKIPEDIA for lots of suggestions and help.

Some rules are meant to be broken and this is one of those rules.

Zach Senior Photos

This past Sunday I did rush senior photos for my nephew Zach. It turns out they hadn’t been done and needed to be turned in by Monday. So I drove for 2 hours to met up at my sisters and take a few quick photos of Zach and His girlfriend who also needed some senior photos. Then drive back 2 hours and process them. This was a rush job but I think they came out ok.

52 Week PB&J toasted with perfect grid marks.

Published by Mike under Blogging,Photography and Art

I toasted the bread to perfection, on a grill, leaving perfect grid marks for last weeks “Symmetry and Patterns” and garnered 1 extra entry :-) .  Love for the cooking process is what it is all about.. or photography I mean. I dragged my feet for awhile finding what I wanted to photograph but in the end I like it. Here are last weeks entries:

It’s hard to miss all the symmetry and patterns here.

An interesting unknown pattern ;-) It has been mentioned it looks like snow.

A perfect example of a perfection with complete symmetry.

Week 15, it is hard to believe. Half awake again but conscious enough to find the button. Chris stopped by to start the process. The tickertape HP printer is still broken and hasn’t been replaced. Actually I threw it away but the cleaning crew nicely took it out of the trash for me and put it on the floor next to my desk. We opted to use pencil again. Button was pressed and music working again up popped:

“Long Exposure”

I think this one surprised both Chris and I a bit. A group of us had gone over the list trying to maintain things that anybody with a box camera could do. This one leans on the expensive camera side.  The photo technique involves, often, a small aperture and leaving the shutter open for a long exposure. This results in stars moving or streams of water looking like smoke. Examples GOOGLED. While some box cameras can do this there is one thing people forget… The only rule is the photo be taken that week. What’s in the photo is open to your interpretation of “Long Exposure.” That could mean something worn away after long exposure to mother nature.  I think this can be done with any camera so it remains.

Next week I’m considering actually making breakfast, on the grill, to entice people over Saturday morning for a photographic outing :-D .

52 week PB&Jing again.

Published by Mike under Blogging

Yet another fine week of the PB&J. Maybe this upcoming week I’ll toast the bread? I have little to say on last weeks macro-ing. I pretty much just stepped out the front door and snapped a photo of a dandelion. I did use a technique I have not done in awhile called HDR.  Without more delay,,, last weeks photos:

With a pounding headache and no trace of caffeine in site I called over Chris to watch me fumble with the button and push it. I then proceeded to rip the wiring from the speakers and turn down the monitor. Squinting I noticed it said:

“Symmetry and Patterns”

Symmetry and Patterns might seem hard to do, but remember this is left up to interpretation and could mean the lack of.  Symmetry and patterns happen in both natural and especially man-made environments. We live in an industrial society, even if we live on a farm look anywhere and you will see them. An eye-catching composition could be where the symmetry or patterns are broken in some way like a crack. GOOGLED. I suspect with little effort anybody could find some symmetry and or patterns after all we constantly do something daily which is by definition a pattern.

So for next week and since I’m going all fancy and toasting the bread I’m just going to email people and ask for submissions. I have had many interested but several seem to forget.
